The G# string I seen at St. Louis

Had a good time at St. Louis with all the fine folks. At the Carter booth I noticed the G# string on one of the steels had an additional wrapping to it. This type of string may have been out for a while, but it was the first I've noticed. Has anyone used these strings, and if so, do they break as much as the regular strings? Thanks.

I've been using the reinforced 3rd. string for a couple of years now. I think it problably does help with the breakage problem, but better than that, it seems to help with that 'zinging' sound we all seem to get on the 3rd. string.

Why Larry Sasser once told me that he would take the rubber jacket off a small piece of wire and slip it on the 3rd. string between the roller and the tuning key to lessen the zing. This wrapping works the same way, but also strengthens the string over the changer.

I use George L's reinforced and they are also available in Ernie Balls. Probably others that I am not aware of.
