All the pac-a-seats I see on the forum are so clean and pretty. Some have fancy back rests/arm rests/drink holders/power strips etc. I bought my seat when I started playing steel in 2006. It's pretty much the only piece of steel gear I own that didn't come from the forum. I found it for $50 on Craigslist after I'd been playing for a month or so, I haven't seen a seat for sale locally since. In the eight years I've been playing pedal steel I've been through five different guitars, six volume pedals, eight amps and who knows how many different kinds of picks, cables, pickups, bars and effects. My pac-a-seat is the only piece of gear I've owned and used since the beginning. I couldn't begin to count the gigs, sessions, stages, jams, rehearsals and car trunks it's been through. No idea what brand it might be. A while back I replaced the handle after it fell off and stuck some 2x4's underneath to jack up the height. Occasionally I wrap more electrical tape around the bottom of the legs to make it sit evenly, but most of the time it wobbles back and forth. I keep thinking that I'll replace it like I've done with all my other gear that gets worn out, but for whatever reason I never get around to doing that. Here are some photos of my ugly pac-a-seat. If anyone else has one, please share some pics. Don't be skeered! There's no shame!

I bought it new at the 1979 Saint Louis convention.
The legs can damage a hardwood or vinyl floor.

Well, that explains it...I bought mine second hand from a friend who worked in a local music store, the same store that sold my '87 LeGrand to the original owner.It makes sense that they would have ordered both pieces from Emmons back in the day.It has been a good seat, and I like the spring-loaded legs (everyone else seems to use the flip-down tubular aluminum type). These are a little heavy but very stable and secure. If I ever re-build the box, I plan to re-use the legs. I wonder if anyone still makes them?

I believe they are called "hairpin legs" -- I have 'em on an old Klein seat as well.

Looks like this place has 'em -- image 18 seems to be the right style.

If you saw Nathan's band, John Howie and the Rosewood Bluff, this would make perfect sense. The seat has ATTITUDE, just like the band.
