Randy and the good people over at Russtler Steel Guitars have been working on my new guitar. It is time to select a color/finish for the guitar and I am looking at options colors, etc... I am seeking ideas on what others would do. Option one is to simply finish it natural or apply a color dye to the wood. What are some of your thoughts. Any and all would be appreciated. The finish will apply to the front and back aprons as the top is black formica for durability.

I voted other. Mainly because "burst" is my favorite.
Maybe a red burst feathering to black with the black mica on top?
Those aprons are beautiful! Can't wait to see the final result. |

I think Candy Apple Red would pop against the abalone and black deck.

If you have a black top I'd consider a Black Burst. Jerry VanHoose had his new ShowPro finished in a Black Burst and it's absolute beautiful. Wine Burst or even Blue Burst would look great too. Ahhh so many choices. Looks good like it is.

my feelings are that you decided to order a new custom guitar with your money for you to use to express your music. it seems you should decide what color you want to represent you and your guitar.
if you can't choose a color, how are you going to choose what notes to play? shall we take a poll? |

I voted for red, but actually my favorite is wine red, or burgundy lacquer.....you know, the kind of finish you seem to look "into".

| My original thought was teal, but looks like It would be a less popular choice. I know many of you might say to get what you want, but sometimes you really don't know what you want or what you want may be a mistake. I have seem some beautiful quilted maple ruined by the application of the wrong color dye. I appreciate your comments and further welcome more. I have to decide by weeks end. |

Shawn, I like this unusual finish, it is called Black Pearl.If I was having a wood body I think I might go for this.

If the top is mica, how the heck are you going to hide the edge of the mica when it comes to the lacquer aprons?
You cannot apply an aluminum strip because it will be too close to that abalone or whatever inlaid strip.
I think you are stuck with a lacquer top.
