A Strange New Problem

I recently posted that I was having some trouble with the tuning of my lower G# string coming back to tune on my ElGrande III. After good advice from the Forum and speaking to Ron, I seemed to have gotten that under control. Suddenly, today I realized that when I lower my Es (which I have on my RR lever, the G# is going flat.) Very strange. Does anyone have any idea what I should be looking for to fox it?

Is, by any chance, the anti-detuning device not set up properly, and de-activating when you use RR?

Thanks for your thoughts, Richard. The weird thing is that the anti-tuning device is only hooked up to the pedals that raise notes -- the lever that lowers the Es is not connected to that. I actually spoke with Ron at Emmons today and his baffled as well. Thanks again for your input. Boo

Boo, how much is it going flat? Is it a couple of cents, or a lot more? Have you oiled the changer lately, and checked for binding somewhere? Turn the guitar over, and see if you can actually see the G# lowering lever move when you activate the lever by hand.

I have narrowed down the problem but am still baffled. Once I backed off the compensator (which help the lowered string come back in tune instead of sharp), the problem went away. But now the compesator is not engaged. For some reason the lowering of my E strings is affecting the compensator of the G# string. And what's even stranger is that it only happens AFTER I've raised the G# to A with the second pedal. I am completely stumped.

Boo,
Back off the nylon tuners for strings 4 & 8. Now push changer fingers 4 & 8 to lower the strings, just as RRlever would. If your problem has gone away, that narrows it down to the lever assembly and its linkages. If you still have the problem, that eliminates the lever and its linkages.

also, tune the G# down, get the tension from the string,
What happens to the Eb?
Does the tuning change much?
Probably some wrong tension in the changer..
