Does anyone have any idea of what's happening with Cougar. I have been trying to get information for a few weeks although I understand Freeman has been laid up but no idea when he might be back in the saddle, etc.

Freeman has been given the word that he has lung cancer so I couldn't say when you will hear from him.
I visited him in the hospital about two weeks ago and at that time he said that he planned to go on as normal. He was in there about a week and discharged.
I may be able to get a message to him if you wish.
Send me an e-mail.

William,
Off topic (sorry), I didn't know that there were steelers on Grand Cayman Is. I flew the FedEx Metroliners in and out of there last year...We have our Mexican Company doing it at the moment but I should be back towards the end of summer to start up the US aircraft again...I'll look you up if I get a chance.
Have fun!

Tom (still off topic)- not too many people are aware of the Cayman Islands except for the somewhat shady reputation Hollywood has helped create with movies like The Firm. I hope you will give me call if you are here again (likewise for other SG Forum members). My home # is 345-947-8976 or office 949-2727. I don't consider myself a 'steeler' yet by any stretch...a pianist and would-be steeler. Since I live in the middle of nowhere, I have to deal with learning and buying equipment primarily by correspondence....that is how I came across Freeman who offers some online instruction and is building me a lapsteel. I was thrilled to find someone like Freeman using the web creatively to get their business out there.....here. So if your here on a Fedex plane or cruiseboat, etc. give me a call!

Freeman called me today from his shop...he is back from an ordeal at the hospital and will have to go back for more treatments. He is a tenacious guy so will undoubtedly be able to get over this setback which took him completely by surprise. For anyone not familiar with Freeman's products, he makes affordable, quality guitars with a few differences. I wanted to add a C6 non-pedal neck on to my E9 and Cougar has the perfect solution - his "Little Boss". It is an add-on neck available in 6, 8 or 10 string models reminiscent in size of the MSA 'Sidekick'. He makes a complete range of other pedal and non-pedal guitars which you can check out at www.cougarguitars.com
Get well soon, Freeman!

I have been playing a Cougar Elite single ten on a double frame for about a year now. It has 3 pedals, 5 knees and a red lacquer finish. Very nice guitar, plays very easy with nice, positive pedal action. I had a nationally advertised guitar that I bought before the Cougar, and the pedal action was so stiff that I couldn't play it and concentrate on making music... Freeman, hope you can bounce back and make a full recovery. Cordially, Larry J.

Hope all works out well for Freeman- I recently had him make me a "practice board" ten string lap steel to work on my C6 when away from my D-10. It's a nice quality instrument, exactly what I was looking for. His pedal guitars certainly look like a nice reasonably priced alternative to other more expensive brands. My best wishes go out to Freeman.

My best wishes to Freeman Cowgar also. I pray that he is able to fully recover. He is a friend of mine and is well-known among all of us Michigan steelers.
Larry, ditto on the Cougar Elite. It is, as Shot Jackson used to say, a real good horn. The Elite is Freeman's top-of-the-line guitar and is a lot of instrument for the money.
