Thanks too whoever sent me the strings

Hello this Is Joe Barcus from west Virgina, I was having trouble last week with my third popping trying to put it on.
Anyways after I worked on the changer, and then these strings came in the mail. well so far its been on for a few hours lol I know that seems small but you have to know thats a real plus for what i was going though, the strings are (AGWIRE) I know nobody sells them here, and Im going to go out tonight and see if it holds and respond more tomorrow. please whoever sent them let me know it came from the steel guitar forum, was it you BOb? thanks Joe

I remember on the other thread that it was Tom Diemer who offered to send the strings. Tom's a real stand up guy, and I'm proud to call him a friend.

Well Im back from playing and I have to say I played for 4 hours non stop, and didnt even have to tune. so Ill be looking to buy some of those Jagwire strings for now. Joe

I was the one who sent the strings. I did it because I suspected that the problem you were having was bad strings. The strings you buy at the mall aren't designed for pedal steel.

I thought it might be you that did it wasnt sure though, I do indeed want to order some strings, do you sell single strings as well? I noticed there was a better tone also that was just one jagwire string i figure a complete set would really make a difference. Joe

Hi Joseph glad to hear that your guitar is ok,and the gig went fine. It's always fun to do a gig with no headaches, other than the other musicians of course ! I have been using Cobra .011's and have had great success with those as well. This was a great service by b0b to send the strings and the info to you. I never thought of doing that, obviously no one else did either. In the past 8 months I have maybe broken 2 3rd strings but that was based on many hours/weeks of heavy practice and the strings just got worn out, When I went to Cobra's I never broke any more. I do change the .011 before a gig though and polish the bridge every time.. As you may know I also play a Carter on the gigs. You may want to advise our good friends on the other side that the problem may be on it's way to resolution and what you did to resolve it. Polishing the bridge and cleaning the roller are essential I believe for any Pedal Steel guitar, and of course a quality string always helps too. I was told recently by a pro/ builder ( I'll let the name be held tight ) that when placing the string into the changer finger, the wrap end, the part that sort of pokes out , should be pointing away from the finger. I tried doing that last week when I changed all the strings but my eyes are so bad I couldn't hardly see that wrap end !

thanks guys and I have to say i do feel much better that it worked when i first set down lastnight i said to my self how long before it comes across my finger wow those things bite sometimes lol, and later in the night a good friend of mine came in and set beside me and we shared licks and twined some it was fun. I will be sending a order into bob first thing tomorrow for some stings. Joe

Mr. Graupp I do agree with you.Just started browsing and seen this and it just set me back in my seat,reading what bOb did. In this world this is the kind of people I try to hang with. BUT there is probably a hundred others on the forum that would do the same thing. I wonder wh;y Ilove the great sound of a steel. Actually, it was just good business, Kenny. I'm fishing for customers.

In all seriousness, the .011 strings you buy at the mall are usually used for the "B" string on a standard electric guitar. When you tune them to G#, and then pedal them up to A, you're nearly an octave above what they were designed for.

By contrast, the pedal steel strings from Jagwire and other distributors are made to different specifications. I don't know the details, but the alloy used and the type of twist on the ball end are two of the parameters they tweak.

As luck would have it, I just ran out of .011s. Had a run on them. I've ordered more, but it'll be a week or so before I have them.

That sounds like good news to me, b0b !! I'd order some but I got so many now, expecting the Carter D-12 to break them and it just won't do that. I even gave away a dozen in that contest about Maurice Anderson playing on Box Car Willy's first album and I still have two dozen or more !! Some guitars just won't co-operate !!
