Help....Peterson strobe tuner hookup in chain

Post by Scott McRee »

Hi all,
I know this night sound basic but I really need help with how to run my Peterson vs-f flip tuner in my rig. If I go from my steel to input of tuner then out of tuner to my pedal then out of pedal to my amp if isn't working. Is the tuner not like a normal one where you can have it in your signal chain? If not, how do you guys use yours? What's the easiest most effective way to run the tuner. I got it mounted to side if my steel and it looks great and I use the power chord etc but can't figure this out. Also does the on / off buttons not stop the signal like and normal stomp tuner? Thanks so much in advance for helping me out.

You may experience some distortion or your tone becoming compromised when running the 'Stroboflip' in line. That has been my experience, and other members as well have posted the same result.

Help

Post by Scott McRee »

Thanks so much for the reply. I'm not getting any sound though. Also, say I don't run the flip tuner in my rig, then how do I use it? What's the most efficient way to run it in a live rig etc.. I'm just trying to figure this thing out and can't seem to. It's not like stomp tuners where when you need it you click it on and it tunes. Then when you don't you click it off and it continues your signal path. How do most people tube I between songs etc??

Here is a helpful hint for you . Planet waves makes a cable with a magnetic switch. When you want to use your tuner in the mix, have one of these cables connected to your second outlet on your volume pedal with the switch end on your tunner. You can have your tuner left on . touch the back of the angle on the cable and you have a signal touch it again it closes it off to the amp. wha La

I, and several others I know, just plug your guitar in at break time if you need to tune up. Between every song is ridiculous. If your guitar goes that badly out of tune every song, You have bigger problems than just where to place your stroboflip in your signal chain.

I am not getting any sound though when I out the tuner through the chain. If I plug straight in the tuner it works great. Also, I use a fender blues deluxe. Do y'all recommend a eq pedal? If so, which one and does it really matter? Thanks in advance for the help friends.

Scott...Will the signal pass through when the tuner is off? Not certain concerning the 'Stroboflip', but my 'Strobostomp' mutes the output signal when the tuner is engaged (so that you can tune without annoying the audience).

I'm not getting any signal at all. So no, it doesn't pass through no matter how I have it setup. I just wanted people's advice on how they use it in live gigs and whether I'm not Hollingsworth it up right. Most tuners if you turn it on you mute the sound but this isn't doing it. Just looking for ideas on how people run their rigs. Thanks

My Stroboflip creates distortion/sound degregation if I turn it OFF when it's in line with my PSG, so I leave it ON all the time...others may report the opposite
sorry to ask, but are you sure you're reading the arrows right?
(have you tried running it alone with a simple regular guitar to tuner to amp connection?) I can only suggest the standard trouble shooting approach, using known reliable cords etc.

I run my VS-Flip the same way. Out of the guitar into the tuner and then into the volume pedal with no problems. So I sat down and checked that it does not matter if the tuner is on or off or which jack you use for in or out (although I do follow the correct jack arrows)

So when you just unplug your pedal from the tuner does the tuner respond? Are you following the proper in and outs on the pedal?
