Where Did C6th Tuning come from...

I think we all know who invented it but, who added the changes the players of the PSG are using today?

Kenny-I can't say who INVented the C6 pedals. But Alvino Rey had the main 5-6-7 pedals on his E6 Gibson Electra-Harp in 1940.

I had those pedals on My E6 Electra-Harp in 1947, after WW11.

It is possible to say that Alvino invented those 3 pedals. At least he was the first I ever heard in 1940 playing them.

Pedal 7 was the Major 7th pedal that we all use so much now.

Pete Drake used to use that pedal a lot to get certain licks...al

Speaking of Alvino Rey - I was watching Batman with my daughter earlier this week on TV-Land. The villian, I don't remember her name, had an Alvino Rey Gun. What a stitch...

It looks like 5,6,8 were invented by Jerry Byrd. 5 and 6 are slants, and 8 is retuning C -> C# -> C.

Hi, I don't mean to argue the point, but I'm going to side w/Al on this one & credit Alvino. My friend got a Fender 400 w/4 pedals
before I did. I was still struggling w/my MultiKord?? (was that a steel??!) Phil's book that came w/the 400 credited an A6th to Alvino (along w/many other tunings being used @ that time!) The changes (among others) were those Al mentions & because I had spent many hours trying to copy Jerry's licks, I used Alvino's pedals, but transposed them from A6th to C6th! And that's a fact!!! To date this, I would say that it was probably 1953 or 54 and at that point I gave my homemade Epiphone triple-neck to Bobbe. The very same steel I played on KMA radio in Shenandoah IA (for the Earl May seed co.) with Ike Everly. In the meantime I had rebuilt it (took off some bulk & weight) myself at the school shop where I graduated in 1947.
