Feelin' the need for Steel, again!!

Hi All,

I have been off this forum for about 10 yrs., as I had to sell my Mullen D-10 in 2004 to pay for an unexpected move from Wilmington, DE to Huntsville, Tx. I am grateful I had the instrument, and the relationships on this forum to help me sell it quickly.

I have missed playing it - every day. And about 4 yrs ago, I got into playing accordion due to my constant involvement in Gypsy Jazz guitar playing. I bought my first one, a Hohner Camillo III in Toronto, ON, while on a project there. About a year later I bought the new Roland V-Accordion FR-3X. An awesome and highly versatile instrument, which I have now become very comfortable playing - Gypsy Jazz arrangements, and Pop Arrangements with my own stylings (from playing "club piano" for many yrs.).

I am torn about putting it down in favor of the D-10 - both require commitment and practice to stay a 'performance' levels. - And I only have time for one.

If I sold my Roland FR-3X - I would feel like a traitor to all I have accomplished with it, but it would fund a nice D-10. It seems the Steel would get me out more to play more, in addition to my jazz guitar playing. I will always keep the Hohner, but I am getting tempted to get back into Steel.

Just thinking out loud, I have been dropping in through the years, and lurking, and I miss the great people and chats. I may also have an opportunity to play at my new church, which might be really cool.

So, the dilemma over my "2nd" instrument is one I am sure many of you have gone through.

Any thoughts?

actually, gypsy jazz accordian sounds pretty exciting to me.

You see my dilemma. Plain and simple. Either Jazz Accordion or Jazz Pedal Steel....

I would LOVE to have a jazz accordionist to play with here in Austin! I know there must be someone here in this music town who can, I just haven't found him/her yet. We have Cajun, zydeco, and conjunto button accordionistas out the wazoo, but I'd like someone that knows American Songbook standards on the piano accordion.

I would love to Herb! I just need to find some IT work in Austin that I can afford to take!! IT is kinda like the Music Biz... When you have so many students and others that want to be in Austin area, they will work for less.

I live in the Atlanta area and there is pitiful few places to go hear PSG here. So I would love to move back to TX. All my wife's family is there - Wimberly, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Boerne...

I once bought a 3 neck Fender in hopes that I would get to move back, and actually use it there.

I work so much on the road as it is, I usually take my instrument of interest with me so I can keep it up.
