Today the Country Music Hall of Fame posted video links to
Concert and Conversation: The Big E: Salute to Buddy Emmons
Now everyone can watch online the loving tribute to Buddy Emmons presented jointly by the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Americana Music Association at the Hall of Fame's Ford Theatre on September 21, 2013.
Thanks to all of the artists and musicians who donated their time and talent to make this event happen. Thanks also to Jay Orr, host Bill Lloyd, Abi Tapia, Robert Kramer and Kyle Young with the Hall of Fame and Danna Strong and Jed Hilly with the Americana Music Association for making this event possible.

Many thanks Steve for posting the links to a truly great show. Read the liner notes you posted a few months ago, and couldn't wait to watch this. Was it just my imagination, or did everyone seem a little nervous with Buddy around?

I'm sorry I posted these video links in this section rather than over in "Steel On the Web" where they belong. I didn't see your notice at the top of the page (duh!) before I posted. Feel free to move this thread.
To Glenn: Yes, I was nervous, as I'm not used to public speaking. Buddy Emmons was sitting in the first row about fifteen feet directly in front of all of us, so we were all wound a little tight....except Duane Eddy of course, who never looses his cool.
The room was filled with an overwhelming sense of love and deep respect for Mr. Emmons. Tommy White, Buck Reid, Dan Dugmore, Duane Eddy, Dean Miller, Pig Robbins plus the stellar band featuring drummer Greg Morrow, bassist Byron House and guitarist Guthrie Trapp all turned in powerful, moving, heartfelt performances. This was a very emotional experience for everyone in the room.
The biggest surprise of the day came from Mr. Emmons himself, who agreed at the last moment to be interviewed. Thanks again Big E.
I felt very, very lucky to be in the room. |

What a wonderful clip to post Steve.
How Buck, Tommy and Doug could sit there and play classic Buddy pieces literally in front of the man himself - well it would have been an instant cure for constipation for most of us. 
The other amazing thing was seeing Tommy sit behind Buck's guitar with a completely different set-up on E9 and not miss a note. Incredible.

| Saw the video yesterday-every part of the video was great! While I was listening to Dan Dugmore, I remembered how he'd played on a few of my favorite records. Tommy White and the other players sounded great too! |

Man, I watched it yesterday - loved it! And the tribute album to the Big E is in my top five favorite CDs of 2013.
I was wondering about this regarding Buddy's story in the video expecting to see Glen Campbell at the studio in L.A. and instead it's Ray Charles doing Wichita Lineman. I believe the Suite Steel record with Buddy doing an instrumental of the song predates brother Rays's version where Buddy played an incredible solo. Do you think that Glen or Ray, or one of Ray's "people" heard that Emmons version and then Buddy got the call for the session?
Buddy's instrumental version just knocks me back out of my chair every time I listen to it, and his fills, and particularly the solo on the Ray Charles version on the album Volcanic Action of My Soul is absolutely brilliant.

Watching it now Steve. I really loved hearing Buck and Tommy playing up there. Just awesome tone guys. But Steve, you need to start a talk show or something. You really got a groove on with Buddy up there. Thanks Buddy for getting up there and telling those great stories and Steve for the entire effort. Who would have thought that your one idea would blossom into this tribute to our favorite guy and cool steel player. I am so grateful.
