Auralex sound board

I viewed a sound absorbing sound board, if that's the correct term for this device, called Auralex.

It is basically a carpet covered board with a
several 2X4 soft foam baffles that make contact with the floor and a piece of foam studio sound baffle in between the 2X4 pieces.

You put your amp on this puppy and it is supposed to have sonic benefits as the manufacturor states that the sound will be more focused, etc. There were the usual testimonials from various artists making positive comments about this device.

It sells for $49.00

Anything that's going to 'damp' the sound coming out of my amplifier I think is counterproductive. I suspect that the various artists making the usual testimonials were bought off. If you want to uncouple it from the floor, you could just put it on a chair and save the money.

It might be of some benefit for studio work if you use an amp there...most of the time, I don't. But the last thing I need on a gig is another piece of "stuff" to have to carry around. I haven't seen anybody using one of these things yet. The term "more focused sound" escapes me. I don't want a more "focused sound"...I want it to go all over the place! Image

What the manufacturor of this devise claims is to dampen the over tones that are transmitted from the bottom of the amp to the floor, crate or chair.

I don't know if the concept of this puppy works or not. I am just thowing this out for discussion.

I have stands for my 2 12" speakers that pretty much do the same thing, I think. The sound is tighter and more controlled with the speakers on stands, which is both good and bad.

Often the environment can enhance the tone in unpredictable ways when your speakers couple with floor acoustically. The serendipity can work to your advantage, but it can also become a nightmare trying to get a good tone in certain rooms.
