Hi....I have a possible line on a beatup ZB Custom, and need to know who has parts like those little changer roller caps and undercarriage stuff;


I'd like to know as well who is "da man" when it comes to a refurb on one of these beauties?

GREG JONES is the man, i would humbly suggest. check on the "buy and sell" section, and go back to old posts from up to 75 days ago, and you'll find a "ZB NOS parts", or something. anyway, he has tons of ORIGINAL zb stuff, and apparently is quite the whiz. good luck. i 've come to realize there's a bit of a cult following of zane's guitars. don't know if he ever made autoharp, though...

One more vote for Greg Jones. I'm sure that all of these guys can help you out, and Greg has really helped me out with custom length rods, cross-straps, and just LOTS of info on ZBs.

I'm expecting my second ZB in the next couple of days. Greg, get ready, buddy.

Seriously, he loves ZBs and does great work and gives great advice.

I vote for anyone OTHER THAN Jerry Fessenden.
He's gonna be building me another guitar pretty soon and I don't want him distracted.

Dave likes guitar brands that start with the letter 'Z'. If I ever start a guitar company, I'll name it 'Zo-Bud', 'Zemmons', 'Zullen' or 'Zierra' to get the coveted DVA endorsement.

Dave - my vote goes for Greg Jones too, he recently aquired a pile of N.O.S. stuff and has even had some decals made up for the finished product - they are perfect!!

I don't know if this is relevent, but Tom Bradshaw recently retrofitted a ZB with an MSA changer. The guitar is a real beauty, and has the ZB sound without any of the attendent prolems they are famous for.

I believe our fellow forumite Smike bought the guitar.

it's a done deal.

In an even up swap for my beat-to-heck 74 MSA Classic I am now the owner of a beat-to-heck circa 1970 ZB Custom D-10. The furniture is in ok shape, used but not trashed; lacquer finish, nicely figured medium dark apron and blonde top and necks, black PU's, those fabulous ZB tailfins at tuner and changer ends. Electronics in fine working order all selector and tone switches functional

Mechanically it is in sad shape. Couple of missing changer caps, linkages in disarray, etc. Gonna be a labor of love to get it in playing trim...

but the bottom line is that it has "THAT SOUND"... my idealized ZB Custom, the sound in my head of what my first ZB sounded like mixed with the Brumley tone and the Rusty Young tone, my steel guitar youth re-confirmed by this axe.

Midlife crisis: with some guys its a red sportscar and a young blonde girlfriend...


Once I plugged it into the Twin and played a bit, I was no longer in control of the transaction... I had to have it.

The guy I traded with gets a fully functioning axe, I get a dream to fulfill...

Hey Dave and ZBer's:

I, too, have just acquired a lovely brown ZB D-10 8+4 compliments of Forumite Daniel Cormier. It's a '66 or '67 (#1077), white pickups, it has Zane Beck written all over it (figuratively and literally) and the sound is mmmmmmmm good. Just needs a little clean-up and some TLC.

This goes nicely with my S-11 4+4, Greg Jones says it's late 60's early 70's Serial #252. Great green guitar!

What can I say? There's flamey maple and Roman shields all over my living room.

I love the sound of both guitars. The D-10 is definitely warmer and richer sounding than the S-11, and weighs about a Volkswagon more . . . but tone, mmmmmm good. And I really love the action and playability of them, both.

Now if I could just play better, right?

How about some 'before and after' photos. There are quite a few ZB freaks on this Forum who would enjoy the renovation.

I intend to post pix once I get some taken... I like the before/after of the refurb idea.

also Maybe a before and after of the above picture and my thirty year older self playing the new axe

that might be too painful...

Dave - as time moves along, you'll never want to part with it. We have a guy who's moved nearby to me and tears "welled up" in his eyes when he saw my ol'D10 as it was his a number of years ago; says - he never should have sold it.

Strange thing is - the SD10 I have sounds entirely different than the D10 but still sounds good.

you zb guys are ok. i wonder if there's a connection somewhere with my obsessions: my cars are all vw (i am down to eight, all 1970 and older), and my hammonds are b3, c3 and bv. keep it simple and wierd.
