Volume pedal roar

Just got my new Mullen SD-10 today, got er tuned and plugged in to my Peavy 112. Noticed that my Telonics VP has a distinct roar when I fully engage it. Has not done this with my Zum Stage One or my recently departed ETS. Any ideas?

What happens if you just go guitar to amp?

Lane good question. I will try that later tonight and see. I thought it might be a cord. With all strings muted I can over hear the low frequency hum get louder as I depress the pedal. I really never noticed it before as I connected exactly the same. Is it possible the Mullen is just that more responsive? It has an awesome sound but that amp sound bugs me. It is a peavy 112, only a year and a half old. I will check it tonite without the ped. Thanks. Rick

I am under the impression that both the stage 1 and the ETS have humbuckers, while the Mullen has a single coil. You might just be hearing 60 cycle hum.
Don't open the pedal til you pick something.

Lane I know now it is the 60 cycle hum. I think I can live with it cause the Mullen sounds so darned good. I am not ready yet to modify a brand new guitar with a fix. Thanks for taking time to respond. I read a lot of your posts and appreciate the help as I turn drummer to steeler . Wish I would have done it a long time ago.

Try moving the guitar around the room, and at different orientation.
I LOVE the sound and soul of single coils, but sometimes they'll hum.

Thanks for the advice. I will try it on stage in a few weeks. Bet I will get used to it and I think you are right in that I need to refrain from VP engaging before picking the strings. That certainly helps mute the hum. I am learning!

Do some searching on 60 cycle hum, there's ways to reduce it without going to humbuckers.
