I found these 12" PA speakers at a church yard sale. I think they came out of the church, which was built in the 1950's They are both Jensen's, and according to the model number, they were used in the Ampeg Reverbrocket, which was rated at 30 Watts. I would like to turn these speakers with their cabinets into a guitar amp. I need a good tube head that is no less than 30 watts and no more than 50. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I think an old RCA PA head would look good on top of that pair... more like what was connected to them originally. _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

Depends on the ohmage of the speakers. They are likely 8-ohms, and if so they would be awesome in a Deluxe Reverb or a Princeton Reverb. Combined, they would be great in just about any of the double 6L6 Fender blackfaces. The speakers may sound better in different cabinets. I'd love to check that pair out with my AB763 Tremolux or 6G6B Bassman heads. Those old Jensen alnicos sound awesome! |

Wow! All kinds of interesting possibilities here! I would like to bolt the two cabs together, wire them up and put on some kind of vintage type handle in the middle. I hope the speakers sound good in those cabs, because I like that they have a slight upwards slant, and they are real eye candy! I would definitely get a cover made so that they won't get banged around and scratched too much. If I get it all together, I would like to use that setup for blues or Rockabilly, because I want a little break-up in the sound. I want a head that will do that without killing the speakers. I like all the ideas, but I particularly like the Bandmaster head thing if I can find one that I can afford. |

those are cool. i wouldn't bolt them together. put a handle on each. i used to have an old blackface bassman head i got for $25. that might have worked. |

Those are very cool looking cabs, I have one just like it, though there is not a Jensen inside. Found mine on the curb a few months back. Has a Marsland speaker in it.
Can't see a model number on your speakers, they look like P12R's or P12Q's judging by the speaker frames. I would be careful about blowing them out with too much power.
Might sound better if there were a back on the cabs, I think they were built to be mounted flush to a wall.
Nice find indeed...Jerry |

Well, those speakers have to be wired together (unless there is an extension speaker jack on the head that I use) and if I transported them separately, then that might be a bit awkward. That's why I want them to be connected together as one unit.

The exact model# on those speakers are ST 102 P12S C470 12 I've thought about putting a back on those cabinets as they are 3/4" thick on the top and bottom and 1/2" thick on the sides. They were the type of cabinets that were mounted flush to the wall at a downward angle back in the day. |

I had one of these speakers once. Put it in a deluxe reverb, but it broke up way too early for me. YMMV _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, my plans for this could drastically change due to the low power handling capability of those speakers. They might be good for recording or practicing, but I doubt they would be much use for gigging. |
