Forum,

On May 14, I recieved the following e-mail from msadeposits@california.com. I have never owned or payed a deposit for an MSA guitar. Has anyone else received one of these e-mails? Certainly it seems to be a step in the right direction to making amends.

---------------------------------------
A newly formed MSA Pedal Steel Guitar Company is making an offer of some type of resolution or compensation to the customers of the original MSA, who, between the years of 1979 and 1983, provided deposit money for the purchase of pedal steel guitars, but never received those purchased guitars. If you provided deposit money for a guitar during that period, but never received what you paid for, you need to promptly contact the following impartial intermediary:

Steve O'Brien support@msadeposits.com

Steve will provide you with further information as to the procedure for making a claim for reimbursement for the money you provided MSA back then. If you know any other depositors who provided payment for guitars but never received what they ordered, please pass the information on to Steve at support@msadeposits.com.

You are also asked to forward this notice to all your steel guitarist friends. They may have lost money to this company during the indicated years, or know others who did.

For a background summary of the events leading to this offer from the current MSA Guitar Co., please click on the following Internet addresses in the order provided. Reading them in order will result in a better understanding of what led to the offer being made by MSA.

The term 'goat rodeo' comes to mind.

I don't get the reference, forgive my ignorance, what's a "goat rodeo"?

Found on the web (where else?):

What is a goat rodeo? This term was popularized around work a few years ago by a colorful marketing guy we knew. But what does it mean, really?

An article about Burning Man claims that a goat rodeo is:

... tech-speak for a screw-up involving too many factors to manage.

In the lingo of emergency medical personnel a goat rodeo is:

Any scene which goes badly and thus resembling a bunch of people riding goats.

Personally, I'm betting that Larry had the second definition in mind...

Drew,

Yes, as you may already be aware, that message, of course, was not authorized by the new MSA corporation.

The MSA RESOLUTION post which has appeared on this Forum since late March detailed a procedure for certain people to seek restitution from the new MSA corporation. That company and its principals, while never having or creating any legal or other obligation to do anything at all are attempting to identify potential participants in the process described therein.

The MSA RESOLUTION post clearly sets forth that anyone who wishes to air their complaints through other means will not be a participant in the MSA RESOLUTION process. They are of course free to do any lawful thing they wish to do. But the new MSA corporation and its principals have no intention of helping people who are maligning them or people who are engaging with others in efforts to attempt to embarrass them.

The message you posted appears to suggest that the authors have some hand in bringing resolution to those potential participants. They have no part of the authorized MSA RESOLUTION process.

Whatever process they do have to deal with those whom they have persuaded or assisted in airing complaints contrary to the rules of the MSA RESOLUTION post is not explained in the message, but is between them and the people they so persuaded or assisted. The new MSA corporation has no part in that.

As I said, the principals of the new company had, have, and make no obligation. They have developed a process for those who chose to abide by its rules throughout the entire process. Those who have preferred to take a course adverse to the MSA RESOLUTION process will need to seek restitution elsewhere.

Dave

I got the email and found it confusing. I think that this topic has explained it adequately. I'm closing the topic.
