Buddy Emmons strings

Hi all
Since I started playing pedal steel I have been using George L's strings. I am currently trying out Buddy Emmons SIT strings. Has anyone got an opinion on these?

That's all I use, Nick. I have tried a few other brands, and there are some slight, audible, tactile differences among them. Preference for strings can get pretty subjective, though. These work for me. I like to change my strings often, so I can't speak to longevity of SITs vs. others.

I've used these on all of my guitars, for a few years, and find them to be no better or worse than anything else that I've used. Be aware that the C6 first string is a .017, which is there so you can tune it to D. I've not tried Live Steel strings as of yet. Having used Thomastik-Infeld strings ($20. +- per set), on my arch tops, it has become clear to me that not all strings are created equal.

I tried the "Buddy Emmons" SIT strings a long time ago, when I had a D-10 PP Emmons, and the ones I got were "rubber bands". I couldn't get them in tune and had to remove them, and go back to Emmons Extra Lively that I was using at the time.
We had a Sho-Bud Maverick on loan, for my wife, and I picked up a set of SIT (Not "Buddy Emmons") as that is all the local music store had and didn't really like them.

I used to use George L's as well until I tried the "Buddy" SIT strings. Now they are my favorite by far!!!

Never been accused of being a great player, but I will admit to having a "pretty good ear" no brag - just fact. Since beginning on my first steel in 1966, I've never found another string that performs as well as Sid's Live Steel Strings

sid, i'm really hoping you didn't charge buddy for those strings. i would think he's earned a lifetime supply from everyone by now.

If we can take that to imply that Buddy Emmons is back to playing his instruments, that's great news for everyone.

Without being the slightest bit disengenuous, I'm frankly quite happy that Big E is buying strings, which means to me that he's playing some again, if only around the house.

Finally put on Live Steel Strings and used them on my NYE gig. I am totally impressed with them. The sustain was unbelievable and the sound of hard picking and soft picking was unsurpassable. They seem to ring forever. I highly recommend them. I put them on several days before the gig, to let them take a set and I never had to retune them, at all. They're great!

The Buddy Emmons S.I.T. Stainless E9th sets are real popular. Lots of people buy them from the
Forum catalog. The nickel equivalent sets (S.I.T. EM-E9th) are popular too. I'm pretty sure that Buddy himself prefers stainless, though.
I've used the S.I.T. Nickel Wound and they work fine for me. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them. I don't like stainless wound strings (any brand) - they're just too bright for me. Personal preference.

I have always found the sound I get too bright, in terms of the the unwound strings. But I understand that Nickel wound strings would not solve that problem as the top strings would be the same as stainless steel strings - am I correct?

That would explain it, I think. In the Forum store, nickel outsells stainless about 2 to 1. All brands. Must be a reason.
