Thanks for posting all that great material, Jerry.
Tommy White was on the program 39 years ago? Sheesh! I was seven years away from my first steel guitar in 1974.
Love the duelling "Sho-Bud Showcase" and "Emmons Entertainment" segments from 1976.

Glad you enjoyed those, Frank. I knew I hadn't been saving those all these years for nothing. Anyone else wanting to post early convention programs, photos, memorabilia, etc., feel free.

I have some of those old programs filed away. 1974 was the first year I went, went again in '76, '78, and '80. Due to work and other commitments, I didn't make it again until 1990. I attended all but a couple of years up until 2010. I may go again in '14, who knows.

Wish I could have been at the 1976 show to see the duel between Buddy and Randy.......I've heard it was unbelievable....

Golden Age for sure! All of the great ones of creativity, tunings and different styles. Evolution.

78 was the first ISGC that I attended.
But I remember 1972, when I worked at Little Roy Wiggins' "Music City" music store across the street from Tootsies on lower Broadway. Scotty came in the store and was promoting his steel show. Too bad I wasn't able to attend the early shows.

I see in 1978 that one of my mentors that was a big influence to me played back then. Mr. Jess Hurt from Toledo, Ohio. I used to go down to Toledo just to hear him play at the Sherwood Inn. I used to sit at the table closest to him while he was playing. When ever he played a certain lick, that he figured I would like, he would look up at me and smile. Jess has been gone now for some time. Never forget him.
