Hello. I am new to this wonderful instrument and I have a basic question about my left foot.

I had a serious bike accident 30 years ago and have found that I can only operate the pedals if I elevate my heel on (say) a short 2x4. It works fine for me as a total beginner but I am wondering if I will run into problems as I progress?

Any thoughts are appreciated -- this place is quite amazing.

All the best.

I like my Heel raised a little too, so I wear cowboy boots. Tennis shoes are OK, but boots fit the bill for me. The only problem I see with a board, for a foot rest, is it moving around, and being in the way.

I also like my left heel to be slightly raised, but not 2 inches. I have shims under the heels inside my playing shoes, more on the left, which happen to be car racing boots; really!!

Brian..Have you considered lowering the pedals? Lengthening the pedal rods by backing off the connectors a few threads will lower the front portion of the pedals somewhat. If the pedals bottom out on the floor before becoming fully engaged, it may also prove necessary to have the pedal action adjusted for shorter travel (a slightly stiffer pedal feel may occur as a result).
