Which method do you really prefer to hear:

The speed picker that can flawlessly play a hundred notes to the measure without taking a breath, including banjer rolls, etc.

OR:

The single string artist that plays lot's of runs, with recognizable 'breaks' for breathing or whatever, and occasionally throws in a nursery rhyme here and there as well as an occasional chord at strategic places.

Chet Atkins, Jethro Burns, Grady Martin and others come to mind. [/u][/i]

I like to hear it all in music. There is no either/or for me.

Why does it have to be a choice?

Sometimes playing fast is the perfect choice, musically

Sometimes not

It's worth anyone's while to learn various forms of technical virtuosity, so as to increase your range of musical options. Having technical facility does not equal lack of taste, which seems to be your actual point

I like both kinds of music. Fast and slow. Very Happy

Seriously Ray. I love both fast and slow tunes when they're played by a master. Don't care for either if they're played poorly.
