Curly Chalker DVD: A question for all of you.

The master disk has now been authored by our fellow forumite Mike Brebes. Mike put in countless hours on this and did an outstanding job. We all owe him a great big "Thank you."

I had hoped to have the duplicates available in time for Christmas, but it appears that they won't be ready in time. We're looking at some time in January.

I have a question for you all. I can either have the disks burned, or manufactured. The problem with burned disks is that they are not always compatable with different systems, and can't be played on some of them. This is not a problem with manufactured disks. From that point of view, there is no question that manufactueed disks are better. Also, the cost per disk of manufactured disks is much less, which means the price you will have to pay will be correspondingly lower.

However, the smallest number of manufactured disks I can have made is 1,000 copies. I don't think we can sell that many. I was thinking of 200.

I'd prefer to get them manufactured, but this would require a considerable cash outlay, and if they are not all sold, I will lose a boatload of money.

So, if enough people respond to this thread and say "I want one" I will mave 1000 copies of the disk manufactured. Otherwise I'll have to have them burned, which means they will cost more, and some of you will not be able to play them.

Please everybody, tell me what to do.

This survey is a bad idea, in my opinion. I remember a guy who lost his shirt because he took a survey like this to the bank. Hundreds of people said "I want it" and only a handful actually came up with the money.

Besides, you already ran this survey once (in Steel Players), Mike. Every Forum member says they want this DVD. You won't know for sure how many will pony up the $ until it's actually for sale.

I say go for the 1000. They'll all sell eventually. Just don't expect to sell more than 200 the first year.

I'm in for one Mike, but also agree with b0b... however, don't rule out the power of Ebay. There are a bucketload of Chalker fans who will snap up a copy there.
And thanks, and best wishes!

Mike,
Count me in for a couple. I also think the manufactured route is the way to go.

Have them manufactured and sell them at the 'burned' price + 10 or 15%, this way you'll minimize any potential losses and deliver a better product.
Oh yeah- I'll take one
