Hey guys, I found a cool little amp yesterday at a music store and was wondering if anyone knows anything about them. It is an Excellsor ( I believe that to be the correct spelling) about 15 watts and it had 12AX and 6V6 power tube and I believe it had an accordion channel. Do these have enough headroom for Steel or could be set up to accommodate Steel with just a tube change. It appeared to have a 12" speaker that was 8 ohm . What your take on this?

I purchased one when I was playing lap. It has a 15" speaker, 13 watts. Dark and Bright switch. The stock tubes are not that great; switching them out improved the sound quite a bit. Also, the stock "Special Design" speaker takes some time to break in. The "Pro" series comes with an Eminence Legend which gets a much louder output. When I switched over to pedal steel, I put a 12AY7 in the V1 preamp slot and that helped it along quite a bit giving it much more headroom and taming the crunch factor.

I enjoy this amp quite a bit for those early Bud Isaacs and Don Warden sounds, which is what I was going for. It may not be loud enough to jam with a full band, but it records great and is fine for practice. It has a distinct flavor that most modern pedal steelers probably do not appreciate, present party excluded, but lap steelers seem to like quite a bit.
