I have a Peavey NV-112 amp that I received in the other day, and even though it was packed ok, there wasn't enough packing material for Fedex to pay the freight damage claim. So I am sure they will deny the claim.
I HAVE IT FOR SALE NOW ON THE FORUM IN THE AMP AND ACCESSORIES SECTION OF THE FORUM AT A REAL REASONABLE PRICE OF 200 BUCKS THE WAY IT IS PLUS SHIPPING. BUT IF I COULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE SALE I WOULD BE HAPPY.
Anyway, here is the problem. When I turn it on it seems to power up-the light comes up, but there is a real loud humming noise that never goes away and if you plug in an amp cord it doesn't work. I don't want to leave it on long as I don't know what's wrong with it. I did leave it on for about 2 minutes and I thought I could smell something getting hot, but nothing to the touch. When I turned it off I felt the transformer and all the other parts that I could put my hand on, and there was nothing hot to the touch. As stated, I really don't want to leave it on long anymore as to do more damage. Also when you turn it off you can hear a loud popping sound.
I've had a few suggestions to try to remedy, which did not work. One was to make sure the power cord is plugged in all the way. I tried that and it still has the same symptons. Another suggestion was to take the guitar cable and stick in all available jacks. He thought maybe it was either the footswitch jack or the channel 2 jack that was stopping it from working and making that nasty hum. Good luck... I tried that and it also didn't work.
I tried that, and also that did not fix the problem.
Someone else that that a loud hum usually means an open ground. Likely at the input jack if it's loud.
Good luck. I don't know what I would do to try and remedy that, or to check that if it is a possibility that it is the problem.
If anyone has any further questions they want to ask me please email me thru the forum and I'll send you my phone number and personal email address.
SO IF ANYONE ELSE CAN HELP ME SOLVE THIS BEFORE I SELL IT I REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
TXS

Al, Peavey factory repair service is very reasonable. They are fast too. If you remove the chassis for the cabinet, it will be cheaper to ship. I'd give them a call and see what they have to say. |

Here's one tip from a FXG Linehaul driver:
Although I don't trust the way they package things (peanuts are their answer to everything), if you have a FedEx Kinkos (or whatever they call it now) package it, they cannot deny a freight claim over inadequate packing. After all, the carrier packed it.
People like manufacturers and dealers already know what to do for safe packing, but for the cat with just an occasional axe or amp, it's what I suggest. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects |

Lane,
Unfortunately the guy I bought it from packed it himself and brought it to a Fedex shipping location.
I know UPS has the Pack and Pay Promise if you ship via a UPS Store, which as I am sure you are aware of, they are a retail outlet and not owned by UPS and are not affiliated with UPS. There are so many people that think because the name "UPS" is on the store they are owned by UPS. So maybe what you are talking about is the Fedex equivalent to the "Pack and Pay Promise" from UPS and UPS Store's.
