This past Saturday, I played a gig at the Grape Fest in Grapevine, TX. I Set up my stuff played the hour and a half gig, and was in the process of racing to tear down my gear as the other band was setting up, and one of the Stage Hands commented to me, "Man, you should have heard this guy playing the steel guitar a couple nights ago, man he was awesome, I don't remember who he was with, but man that guy could play!"....he just kept going on and on, not really knowing who it was, but it was some great steel guitar!
I looked on the schedule from the past shows, and saw Jake Hooker had played on the same stage, so I am almost sure he was talking about the Great Rick Price! (the other bands did not seem to be country, so I only assume)
Rick is one of my hero's...and it's great he is still out making his mark, wherever he plays!
Just thought this was an interesting story to share....

Jake (and Rick) played the Grapefest on both Thurs and Fri nights, about 1-1/2hr each night. Then we got to hear Rick for 3hrs straight (no break, Jake's a slavedriver )on Sat night at historic Schroeder Hall (near Victoria).
Amazing talent.
A short video of "Sugar Moon" featuring Rick.

Rick's playing just blows me away. I've never been a real fan of the push pull tone (I'm a sho bud guy), but he gets the fullest sounding tone out of that green push pull. |

Back in the earliest '70's I had just begun monkeyin' with pedal steel,
made a trip to Nashville not knowin' anyone, happened into Deemens
Den on lower Broadway where he was playing a matinee.
When he took a break I shyly introduced myself as having a go at steel.
He then took me across the street upstairs in Sho~Bud, introduced me
to all the guys up there, then back at Deemens he spent every break at
my table talkin' steel with me, 'clueing me in', etc.
I thought if this is what the 'world of steelplayers' is like, then let me in!
I'll never forget that day because of how friendly Rick was toward me.

Everytime I have seen Rick out playing, he has always, and I say ALWAYS just one of the nicest, most humbling guys. Always spends time talking to me. My wife and I love to dance, but it is soo hard to dance when Rick is playing! It gets me into soo much trouble! I spend more time watching him and studying, than sometimes, paying attention to my wife! But fortunately I have a very understanding wife! Rick has been playing as long as I have been alive, but I am glad he is still out playing and like I said, making his mark wherever he plays!

Rick is incredible and truly a great guy to talk to without a doubt. Jake Hooker and Rick Price dropped by Pearls no long ago and I had the pleasure of watching him play my guitar that evening.
