The Tile - maybe can help with stolen gear recovery?

Anyone seen this item that will come out in a few months called "The Tile". A small chip that can be tracked with an iOS device. I'm thinking of getting a few of these and hiding them in my cases and amp cabinets. It is supposed to go for about a year without a battery. Anyone know if this would work?

Keep in mind when 'chipping' anything that you will not be the only person able to track said chip. Tech-savvy thieves do exist.

Unfortunately, I believe it has a very limited range, and is more designed for finding your lost keys etc.

Something like this might work better, but it is bigger, and I think it is subscription based.

I need some of these for my golf balls.

Ed, I certainly need to find my balls at times as well. : )

The promoters of this device claim that the range will improve as the size of the "tile community of users" increases. I'm not sure how that works and still maintain privacy. I suspect this device, at the end of the day, won't work.

Also, it only lasts for a year, so that's sort of like the same thing as a subscription. Either way, you have to pay to play.

My wife wants one for her keys, so maybe we'll try it.
