Right you are John.just got off the phone with Roland & it's been replaced with an upgraded model(GX 80 I think) not yet I stores(mid-late Sept?)....hey,i just got mine a few weeks ago...glad I ordered when I did(Thanks Honey)...I like mine.took a bit of getting used to but i'm glad I got it...when I switch from steel to Tele,it's pretty much grab and go.i hit one switch if I want to go from Roland JC clean to a tube "modeled" setting, usually Black Panel or Deluxe, ocassionally Tweed if playin a Strat.overall, pretty satisfied.

Jim....Sorry,i didn't include the following info;I have a DOD 4 in-1 out passive "mixer"/no eq just 4 volume controls.I use that as I may take two Teles to some gigs so everything is really ready to go.It sits on top of amp & is the same size as pretty much any FEX pedal...I just hit the channel select on top of the amp when I get up to grab the guitar.Sorry for any confusion. Also,If using just one guitar, your plain ole everyday A/B Box does the job.By the way,the one input concept is really a pain.i wish they'd give us two.

The external speaker jack is great. Sorry to see that go. I have a EV15 speaker I plug in to that jack on my Cube 80X. Makes a large sound comparable to a Twin Reverb with the 15" speaker. I find that using the Boss GE-7 pedal fattens up the bottom end real nice and bumps the gain a little. I play lead guitar and steel and I was having issues with the two different tone settings. The GE-7 fixes that. Roland makes a foot switch to go from the JC 120 channel to the lead channel with all the amp models. You can use this to get your favorite Fender amp sound for the Tele, then switch back to the JC channel for steel. Or you could set a distortion setting on the lead channel for rock and blues.
The Cube 80X has a pretty nice acoustic guitar setting on the lead side. I use this for solo gigs both with my nylon string and my Martin OM.
My favorite feature may be the FX that allow for reverb and delay. I can't be without those.
I just wrote to Roland today suggesting they make a piggy back version of the Cube 80 for steel players. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I told them about all the high-dollar components that steel players use and how the Cube 80 head would be a great affordable alternative.
