I have a 1976 Session 400 that is exhibiting spontanious treble fluxuation and an overly sensitive treble control. Cold solder joint? Bad component in the treble control section? First time experience with this type of problem.

I'd suspect a cold joint somewhere...especially in an amp that old. I usually remove as much old solder as possible from the bad joint, then flow some fresh on the connection(s). Solder can deteriorate over time.
Also, you might need to clean that treble control with some good contact cleaner/lubricant. I like Caig DeoxIT. In fact, clean them all while you're in there...along with all the jacks. Might as well be thorough, eh?
