Don Pawlak and Dave Biller in Nashville

Went to see a double-bill of Dale Watson and Amber Digby last night at the Station Inn; Dale had Don with him and Dave was playing with Amber, and it was a great night of music; the singing and the playing. I couldn't stay till the end, they were going to sing some duets which I hated to miss - I'm sure that was fantastic.

What I really enjoyed was the contrasts - Dave was playing his black D-10 Emmons and Don was on his D-10 Sho-bud, and each one's playing and touch was a perfect match for bringing out the tone of their particular instrument. Obviously either steel can be played a lot of different ways, and with different tones from different amps, but they each played in ways that matched what we think of as the most classic tones from those two guitars. It was a real pleasure to hear back to back...

For what it's worth, Dave was playing through an Evans amp, and Don through a Webb.

Didn't get much chance to hang beyond saying hi, which was too bad. Have to get back to Austin again soon I guess!

I bet it was indeed tough to leave early. At least you got to see part of a great show.

Pete, thanks so much for your kind words. I have to admit, after hanging around Nashville for a few days and hearing the likes of Tommy White, Doug Jernigan, Tommy Hannum, and a few other excellent players on Broadway, I was feeling mighty humble!, so your encouragement means a lot to me , sir. Hopefully we can hang for more than a few seconds next time we run into each other! ;-)
