It's very flattering to be a part of OPERATION RUSSLESS, but thanks especially to Russ and Laney, who've I'm sure given much of themselves for this event. They deserve the credit for giving attention to many steel players.
Jerry F. and Jerry D. - Thanks for the compliments and it was a pleasure to be in this with you. I'd like to hear your renditions.
Dino - heheheh See you soon!
Larry - Thanks, and looking forward to seeing you!
Lana - Thank you

Congratulations Mark! I was confident that you'd win. The fast progress that you've made over the past 6yrs has landed you on the "big stage". I could never detect if you ever had butterflies during any of the Iowa shows. So, maybe I should bring the Dighton ????-A-Seat for backup?
See you in a few weeks

Way to go Mark. Wish we could be there, but joining a new band sometimes has it's drawbacks. We will be at the Dells that week-end. Play good guy.

Thank you Dennis and Craig. I thought the ????-a-seat was only functional for the W'loo and Davenport shows

I just want to take this opportunity to once again thank everyone who entered this contest for your great efforts and participation. I didn't realize that it would become such a task to decide on the "winners". In the end, I didn't like that job very much;I prefer situations where everybody "wins". It's such a good thing that I really didn't know your names as I listened to your tapes. I hope you know that I have enjoyed every minute of finding out how much individuality, talent, and creativity is indeed among us in this steel guitar community. Now that I know your names it's no wonder that I struggled. I'm honored that you took the time to become a part of this.
Once more, I'd like to acknowledge the quarterly winners:
Jeremy Drawbaugh
Connie Burton
Mark Wayne
Jerry Fleming
I hope it was fun!
We'll have a great time honoring Mark Wayne in St. Louis! You'll love his unique style!

Laney,
I probably should not post this, perhaps you did not receive my email.
You may or may not know, I received a very ugly email when you announced me as the 4th quarter winner. Competition seems to bring out the worst in people. This really took all of the fun out of this for me. To that point, I was sorry I entered. It really hurt my feelings to be attacked viciously for winning the 4th quarter. I am glad I did not win the contest and receive more of the same. Perhaps you have some insight. You stated in your email, you were having problems dealing with people with hurt feelings. I know this first hand. I thought about posting all of the email I received. I choose not to. That would just cause more hurt feelings and embarrassment. I would much rather be known as a good person than steel player. I also try to use good judgement. This could ne a grey area
Mark, I truly wish you, and everyone else that participated, the best life has to offer. I look forward to meeting you and hearing you and Laney in St. Louis. Please forgive me from distracting from your thread. God Bless You and Enjoy!
Laney, I am so sorry to put the slightest negative slant on your wonderful project. Thanks for allowing me to participate in a small way.

Dale T. - Thanks for the compliment.
Jerry F. - Sorry to hear about the things that happened with you. I really look forward to meeting you, Connie, and Jerry D.!
Dale Thomas and Bruce - Thanks for the congrats.
To clarify things a bit, "Mark Krutke" is my real name, but if any of you have had last names hard to pronounce, well, my last name is one of those names, so I've been using my middle name, "Wayne" instead. It's not out of any showmanship just to have a stage name, believe me....

Well, I was all set to get on here and start offering "psychological profiles" of secure and insecure personalities and how they affect behaviors and what not, but, suddenly, this all strikes me as hilariously funny, and I just can't stop laughing!!!
That Anybody would take this little contest of ours, initiated in FUN, and turn it into something personally competitive to the point of stooping to vindictive "blows" just amazes me past disappointment and all the way to laughable amusement at the childish absurdity!
Let's enjoy all our moments for "what they're worth", which is to have a good time and try to be good to each other, which determines whether we're real "winners" or "losers".
You don't see Russ pouting just because I listen to Buddy and Jimmy Day play everyday, do ya?...........wait a minute...is that my CD player Russ is throwing into the lake?!
Lighten up, boys.

IMHO anyone who bought the disk, played it, sat down at the steel and did some background with the track is a winner. I did not enter the contest and applaud those who did and the winner.
These tracks helped me a bunch because I played what I felt and then would listen to what the other guys did and would see what I could do to improve my interpretation.
Thanks Laney and Russ and look forward to seeing you both in St. Louis.

Hey Jerry, don't be disheartened. On the bright side, some of those could become excellent polititians or journalists!
