I've been playing this really cool gig every friday happy hour from 4:30 to 9 PM at McCabes Beach Club in Oceanside CA (Oceanside Blvd, just West of PCH before you fall in the ocean.) that's turning into the real place to be. Bob Ryan from Heather Myles band has been there most friday's, and if I'm not there for some reason, there's always a steel player....Gerry Walker, Jim Palenscar, Tim Cook to name a few. Dean Parks even came down once. Come on down....we really rock out...er I mean...."shuffle out"...doing mostly Buck, Ray Price, Johnny Paycheck, Faron Young, etc etc. Hardly any NCS.

Gary...No problem, I'll just go down to the club to set-up early and leave my smiley pockets in the back of my surf-mobile.

Rick, Jim Great job last night at McCabes. I was in classic country heaven. Those of you anywhere within driving distance of Oceanside, give yourself a treat and go listen to these guys on Friday evening...

Hey Perry....Thanks for coming out to experience the revelry at McCabes!

I'd really like to say THANKS to the steel guitar's best friend, Jim Palenscar, for coming down to help out last night. Jim you sounded wonderful!!! I'm a little outta shape on bass, so my fingers and back (and head) are hurtin' this morning. Glad I'll be able to sit back down at the steel next week, although I'll be trying to live up to Jim's great showing.

Ya'll c'mon down for some good C&W

Hey David...since the core of the "California Rangers" have had this gig for 5 years, and it's usually the best night of the club's week, I'm sure it'll be still happening in some form or another. I know Bob Ryan and I will be going on a little tour with Heather Myles around that time, not exactly sure when though.

I'm sure the head "Ranger", Tom Bohren, will find plenty of suitable replacements...Gerry Walker, Dave Brezinsky, Jim Palenscar etc etc etc.

geez I promise I'll stop bumping this one up, but just because we're doing it this week only on Friday AND Saturday (4:30-9pm), I thought I'd bring it up one last time.

However this cool gig looks like it will continue for some time. C'mon down to the beach for some fun country music.

Rick, Once again, an outstanding job at McCabes last night. You were laying down enough hot licks to make me green with envy. Sorry we had to bail on you during the last set. We had a great time and we will be back soon. Maybe you can show me a couple of those hot licks the next time I see you at Jim's shop.

This is a fun place and these guys are wonderful musicians. As they say down south, go and have yourself a "visit" with the folks there at McCabes. Next time I'm in town, I'll be sure to drop by.

Yes John and his lovely wife came in to McCabes for a little Honkytonkitis this last Friday and sounded great sitting in on my axe. He didn't leave any of those great licks on it though. Bummer. Neither did Gerry Dawg Walker (G.D.Walker Stereo Steel Amps). He also, as always, kicks major a**!

Thanks John, Candace, and Gerry!!!

Mike...looking forward to your next visit! This last week's high surf is kinda makin' it a little rough to fish at lifeguard stand
#22 though. Say Hi to T for me.

I've figured it out I think... Rick posts here about this gig and lures unsuspecting out of towners to come see him play... at which point he invites them to "set in for a couple numbers"... and then he disappears to go drink and dance, heck maybe he even goes the two blocks to the beach and surfs a bit - and GETS PAID FOR IT!

I know- it happened to me too...

Although I must say while he is on stage, he plays more music than I typically do in 3 gigs.. so I guess it evens out...

Yeah Dave...LOL!

It's rough down here at the home of good Country Music....Oceanside California! I'm really looking forward to the next time you can give me another break so I can go hit the sasparilla and two step with some surfer gal or two.
