A friend just sent me this link. It's the website for the new movie being filmed about the pedal steel guitar.

Floating in outerspace listening to Jerry Byrd! Great trailer. This will be a great follow-up to summit with the Masters.

I had never heard about that overt connection to the airplane industry - steel guitars made with surplus plane parts, playing music that's been brought from the South by the airplane factory workers.

I forgot I was watching a preview and now I am a little sad. This looks like it going to be great.

Wow! I love it! To see how the steel became the Pedal Steel, using aircraft parts and whatever else, is true American ingenuity. What a treat to see and hear the early Men of Steel.
Looking forward to the whole movie!
Big thank you to those who are producing this overdue documentary!

Wow! I'm buying one as soon as they release the movie. If the rest is half as good as the preview, it's Academy Award material!

Marty Muse has been working on this project for years... we must have discussed it more than a dozen years ago... and he's funding it basically out of his own pocket.
Marty is a wonderful steel player, and I feel his legacy is assured with this amazing documentary when it's finally completed.

Is there a Kickstarter for this project? There should be! I'd kick in...

No connection to the Superman movie, Sonny.
I once had a band called The Stringbusters. Then the Ghostbusters movie came out and everyone thought we stole the name.
Can't wait to see
Men Of Steel.

Thanks for the interest in the project everyone. While it has been a long and sometimes arduous process, traveling the country and talking to all of these great characters has been an educational experience to say the least.
Herb, I don't think it was twelve years since we originally spoke about this project but it was probably ten anyway. Many thanks to you and everybody that has lent their support to the production. As hard as it has been to get to this point the truly challenging part is still ahead of us. We will soon be attempting to raise funds to try to make the film a reality. As we move into this phase of the project I will keep you informed on our progress periodically.
You can go to our website at
www.steelguitarmovie.com for more info. We will try to keep current information on the site and you can sign up for our mailing list there as well.
Thank you all and stay tuned ...

My guess is that quite a few of us around here would be willing to help fund this project – we really want to see the final result. Like paying $50 or so for a DVD in advance... Easily worth it.

One issue I have is the reference to the Gibson. As I understand it, The Harlan Brothers were the first and even sued Gibson who then discontinued their pedal steel version.
It would have been better, and probably more correct, to reference the Harln Bros Multi-Kord rather than the Gibson.
