Anyone have any suggestions? I'm working on a cheap crappy Rogue steel that I'm experimenting with, and the nut is plastic. I'd appreciate any leads.

Any machine shop near you should have a piece of scrap angle iron that would do the job. How about a Hawaiian nut adapter on top of the existing nut?

I'm good at destroying things, not so much at making them.....

Ebay item 370626243386 is a 6 string nut/brige/tailpiece set, OK quality. The seller has posted nuts only in the past, I believe.

Get ahold of Loni Specter at Lapdancer guitars.
He makes an excellent 6 string brass nut.
here's his e-mail address: info@lapdancerguitars.com

I've had good results buying metals from www.speedymetals.com They have many different shapes and materials. Steel, brass, aluminum. They sell in small quantities for the occasional hobbyist or in larger quantities for manufacturers. The only drawback is the cost of shipping can exceed the price of the material on a small order. I might add that they make you set up an account which is one of my pet peeves when buying from some online vendors. Normally I won't buy if I have to setup an account but Speedy Metals is an exception.
