I've been thinking about buying a low priced keyboard stand to use with my lap steel. I was wondering, when these are used in the lowest position for sitting, what is the space between the supports? I know they will probably vary a little between brands, but a ball park estimate would be helpful. I'm about 5'8" and weigh about 225, so needless to say I don't really have much of a "lap". Very Happy

Hey Jim. It probably depends on the type. FWIW, I have one of the cheap X style stands. Adjusted to be about as high for a keyboard while seated at my pedal steel, it measures about 28" to the outside of each bar where your steel would be placed.

Hope this helps some.

That helps a lot, as that is what I am looking at getting. I just wanted to make sure it isn't too wide for my old Gibson to sit on safely. Probably looking the one that Amazon has for $15. I bought a little cheapie folding table at Walmart to use, but it is a little too big and cumbersome to set up. Thanks.

I use one of those old folks walkers, the one with wheels on the front legs and tennis balls on the rear legs.18 in. From left to right handles.I generally use mine standing up,but the legs are adjustable.I bought a grass skirt from the party store to wrap around the front. Very Happy I use water heater pipe insulation on the handles

You can do a nice carpeted board to go on the stand, and put your guitar on top of that. Some hardware stores have some clips the brooms and mops snap in to, you could use those underneath the board so it securely sat on the stand.

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus!

I thought this was a clever idea, and it stays the same width all the way and gives you foot access..

Jim,

Here's a stand I made from a key-board stand. It is 36" from the floor to the bottom of the guitar. I made a little platform (on the left) for picks and bar.

Jim, here's one I did a few years ago. I had big ideas on this one, but it worked fine as is and so I never went any further with it.

HTH.
