Whew, the 1st meeting of the Central Oklahoma Pedal Steel Guitar Club was kicked off in a good ol down home get together with good eats and music! I would personally like to thank everyone for their support in this endeavor! My wife (for allowing me to dip into the cookie jar a little deeper to let this happen) My kids for all the nametag police, photos and grunt work trying to assist any way they could. Matt Pitts for bringing his talents up from Dallas to share with us. Matt Huff for trying to keep up with the sound and mix down of the music, Gerald Cook for providing PA system, helping setting up, and even singing a couple of songs...playin steel and singing, da man got skills ya'll. Gary Shepard and James Moorehead for splitting up their skills on other instruments. Chester Harper for pickin n singing, Wayne Hucthison for his vocal talents. Mendy Vanhowten for keeping a beat for us, and all the other assorted pickers that made this happen!!!
Now, with that said all I can say is WOW guys n gals! To witness a row of talent up front n personal doesn't happen like this all the time. When you have some sliders like, Ken Collins, James Harper, Jerry Horner, Gene Jones, James Moorehead all smilin and trading licks on the same song it really puts the "humble" back into a soul
Byron McKedy slippin in the sweet licks. It was heartfelt when a few of you finally got to see each other again, and to renew old friendships and create the new ones! As for all the rest of you'all, sorry that we were limited on space to set up, it filled up pretty quick. But if you were like me I was too busy enjoying the songs being played anyway. The meeting became offical during break and Myself and James Moorehead lost, I mean got shanghaied, oops, were elected officers for this 1st year. (next time James pick rock over scissors)Our next meeting will be in September and I will post "stuff" accordingly. Next week I will assemble the web site and get things posted up (www.copsgc.net) Again, with all sincerety, this would not have happened without each and every one of you and I thank you for the support, the music and talent god graced upon you to find and endure, and your passion for the steel guitar to continue on down the line. THANK YOU ALL!!! |

If I left ANYONE out of the 1st meeting role I apologize. It was a scramble to get things going and continuing on for our 1st outing. I know I forgot to mention Mr. Leroy Wood, who took over a tune or two on Gerald's Multicord and swept it clean! Leon Rush who managed to create some energy there also. Some of you refused and didnt sign in either, thats ok, we'll remember your faces . Soooo...at the next meeting in September the sign in sheet will be of a different format, I shouldn't miss anybody I hope. We had a total of 50 people there, 44 of which signed in, and I still had to take some food home!!! |

Bob is being too modest. As I had written in another post, Bob did an unbelievable job putting this thing together. From cooking the night before to getting there early to do even more cooking!! Getting all the flyers ready, emailing everyone, keeping everyone up to speed of what was going on....wow...I'm breaking a sweat just talking about it!! I am looking forward to the future meetings. I feel as though I've made a lot of new friends. Thanks Bob! |

I met Bob and Gerald for the first time Saturday and I can not say enough good things about them, even though I give siminars on sucking up. I wish each would have played more steel.
Gerald was kind enough to open His and Sherry's new home to me Saturday night and feed me like a king. They have a beautiful home even if I did have to climb upstaires to get to the guest room. Thanks guys.
Over all I had one of the best times I have had in awhile.

Bob, my sincere appreciation to you for the kind words and for your dedication and hard work in planning, organizing and manageing the kick-off event for the Central Oklahoma Pedal Steel Guitar Club.
I thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of participating in the event; lots of good fellowship, excellant food, and steel guitar playing. I look forward to seeing you again at the next meeting. Thanks again!
