I have to say I'm not impressed with the tone of the ukulele, though.
You did a fine job.

I'll third that... everybody wants to be an ukulele star today. Nowadays,the person with the ukulele is often the least attuned to the overall group sound.
I think Bill has a really beautiful touch though. |

I definitely agree with you on that Jeff. That was the thing I enjoyed the most about the way Bill played that night.
In defense of Aldon Sanders, the 'ukulele player, he was relying on the bass player to run the sound equipment. The Pono Hawaiian Grill is a very difficult venue to run sound and on top of that, my camera's mike is not of the $2,000.00 dollar variety.
It always does surprise me how much "forward" the the sound can be from an 'ukulele. On top of that Aldon is used to just playing solo. Also, there are no monitors for the musicians. The speakers were in front of them. It's all very "catch as catch can" for sound at this place.
But all in all, I think Bill's sweet playing came through it all, and that was what I was trying to put across by posting these videos. |

It's been awhile since I played steel and no rehearsal or set list so it was little nerve racking at times, but all in all I had a great time. On top of that, the guitar was not staying in tune very well, so I really had to use my ear to try to play in tune.
Here's Sleepwalk from that night that Norm didn't post publicly (I couldn't abide the ending, nothing worse than blowing that last harmonic! LOL)

Aloha Bill,
It's been a long time since we've seen you in Joliet. Really nice to hear you on YouTube. But I don't see you doing any singing.
I believe you should try to make the HSGA Festival in Joliet this year. It will be the last one held in Joliet. Don Weber and I are retiring from managing it after many many years. Would really like to see you here and hear/see you on stage
again.
Now I have to go back and listen some more.
