The other day while shopping on Amazon.com I stumbled across this gem! There is no steel guitar on the album.
This is so exciting, as a lifetime Buck Owens/Don Rich fan I never dreamed three was more Don Rich recordings available. I hope they keep digging in Buck's vault and uncover more forgotten material!

I got this recently too. What a discovery!
The lack of steel guitar is disappointing, but hearing Don sing harmony with himself on a slew of hand-picked Possum tunes more than makes up for it!
Wish he had done more Don Rich albums.

A very cool record, I stumbled across it online by chance the week it came out.
As noted there's no steel, Jay Dee had quit the group earlier in 1970 and Buck didn't hire Jerry Brightman until 1971.
I can't figure why they didn't broaden the CDs length by adding Don's 1971 solo album The Fiddlin' Man set, that's about my only grumble.
The label that licensed and issued Don's lost album is the US based Omnivore label, this year they issued a CD of rare Gene Clark and Townes Van Zandt recordings.

When I heard George sing 'The Race Is On' it sounded like something Buck Owens would've sang. That song would sound great with Buck's voice. I know Don can imitate Buck, so I wonder how it would sound with him singing it? Or if he even recorded it?

Buck's version of Race Is On is one of the bonus tracks on the Don Rich CD.
George's Your Heart Turned Left sounds even more like a Buck Owens tune to me. George released both songs in 1964 and Love Bug in 1965, when Buck Owens was on top of the charts. All 3 were certainly influenced by Buck, Don, and the Bakersfield Sound and they're all on this Don Rich album.
