Hi All
I am a pedal steel player and have got hold of a Dobro.
I would welcome any suggestions on tone bars,I use a 12 string bar for playing pedal steel and I feel very comfortable with that size.
I live in the U.K. and there is a supplier here offering Several brands, Shubb,Stevens, some plated, some stainless, various weights. All are within a few $ so that is not a factor.
Best regards
Billy

Hi Billy - I'm relatively new to dobro after playing psg for ages. I am using mostly a Tipton R2, but I also have a chrome Scheerhorn that is a similar shape and I find them almost indistinguishable. I also have a stainless steel Scheerhorn. The Tiptons and Scheerhorns seem very popular. I started out using a smallish bullet bar on dobro but soon could see the advantage of changing over. The Dunlop Lap Dawgs are a similar shape and work just fine as well - they come in a longer and shorter version - the reason I have a couple of those hanging around is that I was able to pick them up at a local music store.

Billy I use a Beard 2010 - this has a different angle at each end which is handy ... you will find you will take some time to adjust to a dobro bar but it's worth persevering with !

Been using a Stevens bar forever. I believe a bar, made like the tipton, but with the radius of a stevens ever hit town, would be the perfect bar.

So go ahead and try some of them! In my opinion, there's no such thing as THE bar.
You have to feel comfortable ...

It takes getting used to after playing steel with a round bar, but you just can't do the pull-offs you need to do on a dobro with a steel bar. I'd buy a lap-dawg for starters as they are a good, all-around bar and won't break your bank. I'm using a Beard 2010 now and I'm really happy with it.

Thanks to everyone for their advice,I have ordered a Shubb SP4 Chrome plated bar.

Hey Billy,
Just went through the same exercise and ended up with the same tone bar as you Shubb SP-4. I like it for Dobro you will enjoy it.
