There is a store that specializes in really high-end, luthiery custom acoustics, mandos etc. I happened upon their website - once - and now I can't find them again. They're somewhere in the Appalachians or other lumpy east-ish vicinity - N. Carolina? S. Carolina? W. Virginia? Does anybody know who I'm talking about.... dang brain. Crying or Very sad

Yep! That's it, exactly. Not that I need a $35,000 guitar, not this week at least. Places like this may prove to be a godsend for the 10,000 builders who all jumped into guitar building about 15 minutes before the economy tanked. Let somebody else do the website, marketing etc. I needed it for an example for a friend who's contemplating moving from semi-amateur to semi-pro. And all us "friends" are saying "Don't do it! Don't do it! Can I have the first one"... Laughing

Say David...On the "slightly less exclusivey side", but closer to us is a store called Appalachian Bluegrass. Have ya checked that one out yet?

It's in Catonsville (just south of Balto.) on the main drag. I haven't been there in a while, but I remember them carrying some high end stuff. Maybe not so much from individual luthiers, but I remember their high end stuff being in glass display cases. And if it's behind glass it must be on the pricey side, right? Laughing

I also remember lots of cool old lap steels hanging in various spots around the store, but I'll bet that was 9 or 10 years ago.
