I just HAVE to put in a word for Jody. I finally got the chance to meet and hear him play last night during his set with Zona Jones. His touch and tone were remarkable. A major highlight was when he did a hammer-on/pull-off lick that is similar to the one Paul Franklin did on "Calling Elvis" and it just blew me away!
When I inquired about the feel of his push/pull he brought me to it and told me that I had to experience Bobby Bowman's workmanship. Now I'll have to fight the urge to start looking for a push/pull! I know that Jody has received several compliments before, but I RARELY get to see/hear other steelers and Jody's playing and personality made it a real treat. He's the kind of player that a beginner or anyone else can approach and appreciate--and IMHO players like him are valuable to us. Good luck to him and his family!

Wow, thanks Marty! I must say that I really enjoyed hearing you with Wayne Toups as well. What a band!! I was particularly impressed with your blues/lap style of playing. You had great distortion tone out front...something that's always been hard for me to nail down.
Larry - thanks...hope to see you again soon!

Marty, I agree with you on Jody's playing. The man is a true artist. He is a regular at our Southeast Steel Guitar Club. I've seen him on a Sho-Bud, Emmons Legrand, a Carter, my Mullen and a PP. He makes them all honk. And, as you point out, he's willing to share tips with anyone. |

Hey Jody, thanks for the comments on the blues/lap thing. Our sound engineer helped me tweek the settings on my Stereo Steel and Digitech setup. To my ear it's still not like I want but I'm sure he's enhancing it out front for me. Oh, an added thumbs up for you---my wife has heard lots of players over the years and she seldom comments on anybody's playing, but when you did the hammer-on/pull-off thing she looked at me and said,"that was cool! What is that?" I replied, "honey, that's a PLAYER." Take Care, Marty B. |

For those of you who do not know him...Marty Broussard is a fantastic steel player and super talent on the dobro as well. I listen to him just about every week in order to enhance my playing of "Cajun" tunes. He has really done some fine work on a lot of Wayne Toups recordings. Marty can play any style of music and should be invited to play on some of the major shows. |

Hey Doug, Thanks a whole bunch for your comments! I was thinking about you while I was in a meeting last week. We're about to start on a MAJOR turnaround at "xyz" plant that you're familiar with.
I hope you know that if you need any help on the Cajun stuff just tell me. Meanwhile, I'm pickin Jody's brain for some of his licks!!
Best regards, Marty B. www.waynetoups.com
