After searching for some time, I finally found one, and at very reasonable price. It is the soft gigbag that is made to be used with the Gretsch lap steel. Soft felt on the inside. It is just the right size and cost about $40 delivered. I got mine from Cream City Music in Wisconsin, a Gretsch dealer.

I had been using the large keyboard case that came with the Super (a 12 string) but I got a lot of hassle taking it on the plane. I no problem fitting it in the overheard, but every gate clerk gave me grief about it, demanding I gate check it, which I refused to do.

Anyway, this new one works very well. 34" length and 9" across the body at the widest. Pocket on the outside.

I just bought one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Mikes-Law-Enforcement-Tactical/dp/B0017KWXM0
It fits my home made lap steel perfectly, and the club owners are now a little nicer when I walk in with it.

Good tip. I also looked at the rifle cases but the ones I liked also had a lot of straps and pockets inside. The ones I liked that were clear inside were out-of-stock everywhere.

I did try one of the others in a store but the case just wasn't deep enough, I couldn't close the zipper.
