I'd never heard of Tom before I read his obituary this week. Canada's answer to Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Really interesting read:

Stompin' Tom is pretty much unknown in the US, but he is a folk hero and cultural icon in Canada. I saw him a lot on TV during the first half of the 1970s, and I can remember his wedding being broadcast on national television.

He is a Canadian country music legend, but his brand of country music is not the traditional fiddle and pedal steel type stuff that a lot of SGF members like. It's mostly guitar driven stuff, something like Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three.
