A friend of mine, Marjorie Michelle Rose, a great female singer, recently moved to the Texas Hill Country, right now Bandera precisely, and is looking for local players to jam and network with. She plans to move to Boerne within the next year.

Please post here any on yourself or leads to others, I'll put her in touch with you. She's into country and gospel. I'm her favorite steel player (and bandleader), but she'll try to warm up to y'all. Wink

Eventually she'd like to put a band together, or join an existing group. She's very talented, and very down to earth and easy to get along with. She's also an expert horsewoman.

Bandera is home to the McKay Brothers, a Red Dirt group. I know they have used Lloyd Maines on one of their CD's but have no idea whether he plays steel with them live or just in the studio.

I'd suggest she visit a couple local watering holes and sample the music scene, I'm sure there are opportunities to be had once she asks around.

Good luck to her!

Ray, if it's Bulverde you mean, it's about half hour east of Bandera, according to Google map.

A good place to network is the picker's circles in Luckenbach...

... lots of good music happens there... a good place to make a splash! About 60mi away... worth the trip, I go farther when I go. It's Texas... get used to driving!

Arkey Blue's Silver Dollar @ 308 Main St, Bandera, TX
Music at least Fri-Sun. Arkey Blue and his band have been playing there since the 60s and still perform most Saturday nights it seems.

There is a jam each Tuesday night at an rv park on the river in bandera during the winter months. Another jam each Thursday night at the 1000trails on medina lake. Both jams are winter months only.

John, she can contact me is she desires. I am a steeler and live very near Bandera (30 miles). I have played numerous gigs in Bandera over the years. Also have played a lot in the Boerne area in that I used to live very near there. Email is "ovbarnes@swtex.net". Home phone 830-966-2241. Can be contacted any time. I've got plenty of experience.

John,

I'm in San Antonio proper, Bandera and Boerne are not far. I could also use a horse riding lesson or two.

Feel free to put her in touch with me, or with my band The Mesquite Ramblers (managed by Conrad Goeth, bassist).

Cheers,
Zach
