Topic: newbie here - this may sound dumb but... |

I am tuning my carter starter the way i have been told via tempered tuning with all the strings + or - a few cents. So the A pedal raises the 5 and 10 from B to C#...so should i also add the cents to that C# or tune it to C# straight up??

If you tune all your strings 440 strait up and your 3 and 6 string either - 5 or - 10 which ever you like the best. I tune mine 440 strait up and my 3+6 -5. I had a Steel Guitar teacher tell a bunch of us at a seminar.'

You may not want to do either of the options you presented (add the cents to the C# or tune it straight up). The raises/lowers may have their own offsets that are not consistent with their open string partners.
I am using http://tinyurl.com/jeffsCopedent. There is no definitive way, but I think that is a reasonable starting point. I didn't come up with it. I think it is based on Newman.

| All tunings in the world won't help unless you play on the frets,a little one way or the other with the bar will either put you # or flat.Learn to play on the fret then you can use a chart to fine tune. |
