The great steel guitarist, DON HELMS, was born today in 1927.Don's distintive sound graced the recordings and stage shows of Hank Williams, Sr. and Jr. and Hank's daughter Jett for decades. Don recorded with Ray Price, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and dozens of other country stars. His flair for cool intros and turnarounds was never more evident than on Patsy Clines " Walkin' After Midnight". Don was well known for his use of a Gibson Console Grande steel guitar that he aquired through a backstage trade with a fan. Don passed away in 2008 but will never be forgotten.
