Is there another speaker with the same type of midrange as the BW's. Not interested in JBL sound. I would like to get a 1203-4 BW but they are hard to find used. Anything that is a step up from the Blue Marvel in my N112.

Larry I put a 1201-8 in my 112 and to my ears it sounds better than the BM and the 1203-4, 139.00 at parts express

What part of the JBL sound are you not interested in, Larry?

Dave to my ears the JBL does not enough midrange built in where the BW does. I have tried both several times in different amps over the years, they just aren't for me.

The Blue Marvel is kind of there I know I can do better as I have done this once already, sold the speaker to Mike Eisler when I went to a 2nd Walker SS system. Now that I have obtained another N112 I am on the hunt again.

Now, if you have a JBL in your Randall it sounds great from where I am sitting, maybe the best sound I heard at the steel jam. Just saying.

Larry, I agree with Roger, the BW 1201-8 is better than the 1203-4. Smoother and not so nasely sounding with hardly any difference in power output. I have one in my NV400. Wayne

Wayne a 1201-8 in your N400 not a 1501?

Wayne nice to see your success playing steel. We were both on a Thurs night show in St Louis so so many years ago, you were killer way back then.

Larry, talk to people who start using the new Eminence neo EPS-12C this month. I think it may be just what you are looking for.

You say such nice things Larry Cool

The Randall you heard at the recent jamboree has a JBL E130 (ceramic magnet, very heavy) in it, I have a pair loaded like this and they sound exactly the same.

Another Randall recently acquired has the original K130 (alnico magnet, fairly heavy) in it and it does not produce the same mids and highs as the identical E series-loaded amps, whether this is a difference in speaker design, a problem with the amp, or with this particular K130 speaker, I have yet to determine.

What I do know is that the Randall is rated at 200 watts at 4 ohms and I generally run it wide open all night; the E130's weigh a lot more than the K130 or D130F but I know it will still sound the same at the end of the night as it did at the beginning, and I can't honestly say that is the case for the alnico JBL's at that power level Neutral

Hey Larry,

You ever try an EVM 12L? I've got a pair in a twin and they're not like JBLs. I am not familiar with the Peavey speaker tone but the electro voice is warmer than my JBLs.

Not so sure you should run out and buy one but if you have an opportunity to try one I'd recommend it.

Hi Larry,
I have a 4-ohm JBL E-120 you could try if you would like.
I bought two brand-new from Tom Bradshaw a while back.
Call me.

Larry...Yes, I had Rick Johnson make me a cabinet that now houses a BW 1201-8. To me, the 12" has a better sounding frequency spectrum than a 15". The low end is tighter with plenty of punch, mid range is sweeter and the high end is smoother. There's a few good sounding 12" speakers to choose from, but for my money I like the BW for steel guitar. Wayne
