Ok, turns out I think the Esquire model lap steel (earlier post) may be made by a Selmer?since they made an esquire amp and some early lap steels before making Hofner lap steels??
I bought one that looks like the 39 Kay model in earlier post and has a body of an early Recording King. Any information, pictures would be great.
I will post picture later this week. |

More info on Selmer. Turns out the Selmer Esquire amp was made in Elkhart, Indiana.
Selmer had a US branch 1920s to in 1941 renamed Bundy, that made mostly band instruments. They appear to have produced lap steels or ( I am guessing re labeled Kay lap steels.)
Other info welcome. |

Selmer began as a French company making reed instruments (Sax, Clarinet, etc.) but the British arm, built up post WWII, was a pure distribution service. I read the history of Hofner guitars recently and Selmer had great influence on Hofner design.
It is quite possible that most non reed instruments carrying the Selmer name were made by many manufaturers but simply badged Selmer for distribution.

Paul/ Brad,
Thanks for the info. I have a suspicion it was made in Elkhart Indiana under the Selmer name because a matching " esquire" amp was for sale with that tag information but I didn't buy it.
If you see my earlier post about an Esquire lap steel there is an exact model look alike except headstock which was a 1939 Kay. Hope to post some pictures next week.
Appreciate your input!
