Sat night I was playing and just before the end of the night my amp got a bad distortion to it. I checked it out today and found it is the speaker but I can't see anythng wrong with it, It has the scorion plus 12" in it. I have taken a 9 volt battery to it and the basket moves fine. I took the magnet off cleaned the grove checked the voice coil as best I can put it back together and still the same thing.
Any thoughts on this? I have hooked a 1502 from my vegas amp to the 130 amp it is clear as a bell so I know its not in the amp
Thanks for any help or ideas you can give me

I have a Special 130 and love it. sure beats dragging around my nash 400. just have to spend some time and dial in mids. My speaker went out also. I just had it replace with an old eminence with a big voice coil to get by. may upgrade later but it sounds pretty good as is. I suspect speaker is shot. I wouldnt hesitate to get rid of it. I love the way the new speaker is less gaudy. I took of logo and tacky panels as well. It is now a stealth face ripping all black tone monster. My Legrande really growls through this thing! I had it recapped also. It was 30 yrs old and tech said they were dried out. May want to take a look at that also. I love giging with mine. so much power and so much lighter. Had a GK mb100 but it died. I like this much better anyway. 50lbs is sure better than 70. Also love no more tubes. Fell out of love with tubes after several fails at gigs. Hope you get your amp goin. Sounds like the speaker voice coil is going bad. :(

Have you tried moving the cone by hand? If it's rubbing you can hear and/or feel it. Of course, make sure your connections are good, the bolts aren't loose, etc. Have you measured DC resistance? That will go up if the coil is fried.

Thanks guys for your info. Here's what I have tryed this morning: checked ohms on speaker 3.8 ohms
used 9 volt battery and cone moves in and out ok
I hooked speaker up to my nashville 400, unhooking the 15 and it worked just fine

I reinstalled the speaker in the special 130 and it worked for 8 minutes and started distorting again. I turned amp off and waited a half hour and tryed it again. It only took 2 minutes till it was same problem

I guess that tells me it is something in the amp its self. I did try pluging in to the effects jacks and used contact cleaner also and didn't help.
I'll pull amp out and see if I can see anything wrong but I'm no amp tech so I might have to take it to the shop. If yu have any more ideas, please let me know and thanks again for you help

Replace the caps in the power supply and it will probably fix it.
