Avatars -Let's See Who You Are

Post by Alan Brookes »

Some members use cartoons, sketches, or photographs of irrelevant subjects as their avatars. :(

I like to see who I'm communicating with. Don't be afraid to show your face. We're not all handsome and good-looking. How can I recognise you if I ever see you when your avatar is a cartoon ?

I've even seen members use photographs of other people as their avatar.

Good tho't Alan.............

I long ago suggested that each avatar include just a short thumbnail sketch of how long the individual has been playing steel guitar, amateur or prof.

It fell on deaf ears............yet it makes good sense to me. Like your suggestion, I much prefer to know WHO I'm conversing with and/or what level of actual expertise they are dispensing to the world.

Why not share with us your own position? You wouldn't got to a steel jam with a sack over your head, or would you?

...and if you decide to post an avatar using a photo of yourself, please make sure it's a recent one and not one from 25 yrs. ago

I'll stick mine back up here for a bit, like I really look now, warts and all.

I'm several notches below "stupid" when it comes to a computer. I still use the "hunt-and-peck, using one finger" typing method. I don't know how to post a photo of my steel, much less myself. But if I did know how, I'd rather post a photo of my steel. And in a side-by-side comparison, you would agree.

Bo once bowled a 300 overhand.
He lives vicariously through himself.
His Avatar uses a picture of him for an Avatar.

As my avatar I've long used a painting by the renowned live concert artist Scramble Campbell of a festival gig of me playing with Vassar Clements band. Great memories that make me smile everytime I see it. I really miss Vassar. I kinda still look like that if it's important.

Here's the full-size version of my avatar...the day I brought home my guitar, nearly 2 years ago now. Needless to say, it's no longer sitting in the living room!
