What is your favorite pickup for a 22.5 in scale 8 string with a single pickup cavity for western swing?

for pure western swing, i would say the early Fender "trap/boxcar" pickup - the string-thru model.
but i still prefer the Ric horseshoe any other day.
...good luck finding either for a project...$$$$

What kind of sound are you looking to achieve in this guitar? How much do you want to spend?
Jason Lollar makes some of the best sounding eight string pickups I've heard recently.

I have the Lollar Chicago pickup and really love it, its a fat strong single coil. I would like to try is Gibson console copy, maybe a better choice for western swing. Lollar also make the fender stringmaster pickup copy, if you want a clean sound its maybe a good way to go.
If you can get the Rick Aiello pickups you will maybe have a nice 40's western swing \ hawaiian sound! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ5tOpJMIMw
But the only one I have tried is the Chicago Pickup and I love it. |

My one and only lap steel is an 8-string with 22.5" scale in which I have a Potbelly pickup by Rick Aiello.

All my guitars are shortscales. In my stringmaster clone there are original fender single coils, great tone.
I have a post-war Rick, (remagged), great tone.
My self made guitar houses an Alumitone BassBar 3.5 (equal to their steel pickups) - great tone 
They all have a unique tone which you fall in love with after a while. After all, I believe most of the tone is in your touch.
But to be more specific, if the Alumitone fits into your cavity, give it a shot, it comes for a fraction of the price of the others and it is a unique system that works flawless.
