Very interesting... It looks like it could be clamped in position so that it would bar the 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th fret? Mounted on a guitar tuned to any open chord would give you a I, IV, V, VI and Root octave chords... but why not just use a steel bar?

Invented by Albert Pietsch of Wisconsin...and fully functional after all these years! Only "missing" the leather straps that are used to secure it to the guitar neck. Ain't technology grand?!:
