Well I was ask about tab for a part of the song "In the Mood"
So off the top of my head this is how I remember the melody for this part and my take on the chords based on what I hear.
I didn't take the time to phrase the melody correctly but it's close enough to learn from I'm sure.
However before I give this to him I'd like your take on even if it's in the ballpark.
I repeated the whole thing over three time on the mp3 so to give you more exposure to the melody and chords.

Six beats in the first measure, 3.5 beats in the second, four beats in the third, 3.5 in the fourth.

Is your student capable of swing? It certainly sounds better when upbeats are made use of... it looks like the fourth measure was written with upbeats in mind, but without the right amount of rests on the recording it comes out on the downbeat.

Here is an easily-accessed recording of this song:

Is the part you're trying to transcribe the one at 1:00? Hard to tell.

I always had trouble with the intro. Does anyone have an intro for a single instrument, as the big band has a split up horn section doing the intro?

I have the intro tab from an orchestra version that was pretty close to Glenn but finding in in my archives is a problem.

Back to my version here.

Let me start off by saying is my version really so bad that you can't tell which part it is?

For some reason my TablEdit developed a bug and dropped some rests in the notation. It does the rests automaticly so I have no input on that and never check for it.
I've corrected it.

As I said I didn't take much time with this didn't phrase the melody as I wanted and I only intended to be close enough that you can get the drift.

I was in hopes folks would play the mp3 and match it up to the tab and see if it was simple enough and doable for a beginner.

The idea was to play it like you would if you just sit down with very little practice and winged it from memory without invoking Mr Miller.
